Dean’s Musings . . . “New is . . .”

The 21st chapter of Revelation begins with a promise.

1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.

2And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; they will be his peoples,

and God himself will be with them;

4he will wipe every tear from their eyes.

Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more,

for the first things have passed away.”

5And the one who was seated on the throne said, “See, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

[Revelation 21:1-5]

   God is making all things new according to God’s promise in verse 5.  That’s a lot of “new”  when you think about it.  Imagine how different it will be to no longer have anything to cry about . . . no death . . . no pain . . . just lots of God to go around.  God emphasizes the certainty that these things will come about by adding the concluding phrase:  “Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

   One of the things that God will make new is you and me.  I know . . . you don’t think that anything can transform you because of your past; well, that’s not so.  Everyone will have a new beginning . . . a second chance.  You don’t have to wait until the end of the world to receive your second chance; just ask now.
